Estelle Peirano Crowhurst was a columnist for the now-discontinued Independent-Herald in Yuba County, California, from 1948 until her death in 1969. She married her husband Herb Crowhurst in 1923, and they had five sons together. Her column, titled “Diary of an Average Housewife”, talked about her life as a wife and mother in the mid-20th century, often featuring comedic and thoughtful insights about raising a family in suburban Northern California. She wrote more than 1,000 weekly columns over nearly 20 years. 

After her death, her family and descendants created the Estelle Peirano Crowhurst Fund to honor her legacy as a columnist and her work as a homemaker. In the 50 years since the development of the scholarship, the fund has provided more than $15,000 in scholarships.
